![]() One had a large nose that looked like an eagle’s beak and black hair. He realized that this was the fourth time in the past week or so that he’d seen them. It wasn’t until later that night as he got ready for bed that he thought about the two men again. The best thing to do was simply to ignore them. People had been watching him his entire life. Robby wasn’t concerned one way or the other. It was nearly dusk, the gallery cloaked in shadow. Walking back to the athletic center, he glanced at the monastery. He knew it would be foolish to expect anything more. He got knocked down two more times, but he caught a pass and almost tackled Karl Marshal. ![]() He caught up to the game in time to run into a ruck. He liked being called “Krok.” A week later, everyone had forgotten it. One of his teachers had remarked upon his determination and called him “Das Krokodil.” For a few days, the nickname stuck. He might not be as big as the others yet, or as strong, but he was no quitter. He was small for a sixth former and thin, with pale skin, a mop of curly blond hair, and questioning blue eyes. When he’d regained his breath, he set off down the field, limping at first, then shaking it off and running as fast as he could. Robby climbed to his feet and wiped the dirt from his face. “Might as well make a mud castle while you’re down there.” Robby’s feet left the ground and he landed flat on his back, his wind knocked out of him, sure he’d never take a breath again. Robby returned his attention to the scrimmage in time to see the scrum half-it was Karl Marshal, the best player on the team-lower his shoulder and plow into him. The boy could tell they thought he hadn’t spotted them. They stayed in the shadows of the gallery, popping out to take a photograph, then ducking back again. There were two of them, up by the monastery on the hill overlooking the athletic field.

![]() Talking with the teachers will help give you a sense of the overall direction, enabling you to work with the school to assist in the learning process. However, this will only give you a broad outline. For older students, this lists your child’s grade (from A to E), depending on the standard they have reached. If the interview is at the end of the school term, you would have gained an idea of their aptitude and level of achievement from their report. Here are some questions to consider asking. Understanding which questions to ask the teacher is the key step to making the most of the interview. This will give the teachers a better understanding of the child’s behaviour patterns, which will be helpful in directing your child’s development and education. Your teacher will be able to ask you questions about your child’s home life. If required, you can also enquire about special support services. This will give you a better idea of the academic and classroom support that’s available and the expectations for homework and conduct. Going to a parent teacher interview also opens up communication between you and the school. For example, if your child is in primary school, his or her teacher may suggest putting aside time to read to them to improve their comprehension and vocabulary. This gives you an insight into the parts of their learning where you can assist your daughter or son. You get the chance to talk with your child’s teachers and learn your child’s strengths and weaknesses. ![]() Schools will encourage feedback from parents, and you will gain a better understanding of the school’s programs and methods. They open communication between you and your child’s teachers. Parent-teacher interviews are invaluable in the ongoing educational progress of your child. Some schools hold these interviews at the beginning of the school year to give you a chance to meet your child’s teacher(s), however, each school approaches these interviews differently and you should reach out to the school to confirm dates of these interviews. In certain circumstances, either you or a teacher may request a special interview to discuss your son or daughter’s progress. Typically, this is aligned with the release of school report cards which occur at the end of Terms 2 and 4. What are parent-teacher interviews?Įach school often arranges a few days or nights for parents to speak with teachers and discuss their child’s progress and performance. Preparation and the right parent teacher interview questions, as we will see, are the keys to success. Or, perhaps the most important of all, finding the right questions to ask to get the most out of the process. For parents, the problem may be an uncertainty of what to say, or of how best to approach the meeting. Both parties are nervous about meeting each other and about what to say in the short time allocated - usually only five to fifteen minutes. Parent-teacher interviews can be a daunting experience. ![]() Dot blot apparatuses can utilize either a slot blot template that binds the protein to the membrane in a thin slit or a round template for application of the protein in a circle. Titration of both primary and secondary antibodies can be performed simultaneously by using a checkerboard titration pattern. If a sample contains precipitates, centrifuge the sample and only apply the supernatant to membrane to prevent clogging. If detergents are present, dilute the samples with buffer.Do not prepare samples in buffers containing detergents as they will inhibit binding of the protein to the membrane.Prepare enough sample in sufficient volume to accommodate all the conditions being tested. These apply both to when using microfiltration units or when spotting the protein manually. Negative control samples will determine whether any observed signal is due to non-specific cross-reactivity.Īlthough sample preparation for dot blotting is similar to sample preparation for traditional Western blotting, several factors should be kept in mind. Negative control samples can also be included, particularly if cell lysates are used. Recombinant protein is ideal, however cell lysates containing highly expressed protein can also be used. Protein samples for titrating antibodies should contain the protein of interest in abundance. The region containing each dot must then be individually excised and treated separately for incubations and washes. In this case, protein is spotted manually onto the membrane in a series of small dots. Microfiltration units provide an ease of use as protein blotting, incubations and washes can all be performed within the unit which isolates each individual blot.ĭot blots can also be performed without the aid of a microfiltration unit. However when the integrity and identity of the protein is known, the dot blot format can be used to provide substrates for titration of antibodies.Ĭommercially available units for dot blottingĭot blots can be performed using commercially available apparatuses, often called microfiltration units. Because proteins are not first separated using a gel, dot blots cannot be used to determine the molecular weight of a protein nor can they discriminate between alternate forms of the protein (e.g. Optimal antibody concentrations can be efficiently determined by adhering proteins to nitrocellulose using a dot blot technique with a checkerboard pattern to determine the optimal primary: secondary concentration pair.īelow are guidelines and general protocols for performing dot blots either by using a microfiltration unit or by manually spotting protein onto a membrane.ĭot blots are similar to Western blots, however the proteins are not separated electrophoretically prior to transfer to a membrane but are instead spotted directly onto a membrane. Although dot blots cannot determine the molecular weight or integrity of a protein and therefore should never be used to identify a protein per se, they are particularly useful in titrating antibodies. The best results for Western blots are obtained when both the primary and secondary antibodies are accurately titrated. Therefore, mention all the leaves with the stem they are associated with and cross-check it against the given data to make sure if you have written all the figures. Hence, the plot will be as follows: In consequence, in this example you can read 1256 1256 as 12, 15 2149 as 21, 24 and 29 and so on. Since a single stem can have multiple leaves. In order to manually create a stem plot you have to divide the data into stems (in this case, the first digit of the number) and leafs (the second digit). Step 04: Cross-check the data from the table Each of the numbers in your data set can be viewed as being made up of two parts: a stem and a leaf. In this way, you will end up splitting the data. Mention all the stems in the left column and all the leaves in the right column. Now draw a vertical line giving you two columns. ![]() Step 03: Draw a vertical line and write the stems and leaves Construct a stem-and-leaf plot for the following data values: The stem-and-leaf plot can be constructed as follows. In contrast, the second digit of each number would be considered as the leaf. Step 5: Repeat the calculation for each row. Step 4: Calculate the leaves for the first row. Step 3: Manually enter the stems based on the minimum and maximum values. Since there are two digits in each number, you can split the numbers and identify the first digit as the stem. Step 2: Identify the minimum and maximum values. This means splitting the data (numbers) into two parts. Step 1: Content Introduction A stem and leaf plot divides data into stems (the greatest digit) and leaves (the lowest digit) (the smallest digits). Create a stem plot and fill in the circles that terminate each stem. Now all you need to do is identify the stems from the data. All you need to do is identify the smallest and the largest numbers from the data, which are 7 and 43, respectively. Let’s consider the example mentioned in the above picture. The prison guards break into the execution chamber and point their Heckler & Koch HK33 and Winchester Model 70 rifles and Ithaca 37 shotguns at Leone, but if he is shot he will trip the switch and kill Drumgoole. The guards organize into a response team and secure heavy weaponry. Leone activates the generator and secures his hand to the switch. Enraged, Leone breaks into Drumgoole's office and takes him to the execution chamber and straps him to the electric chair. Dallas badly beat up apologizes to Leone and as Leone tries to help him Manly attacks Leone from the water and Dallas then rips an electric cable off the railing and electrocutes Manly in the water taking his own life as well. Leone breaks free burning Wiley, one of the guards, in the steam and knocking out Mastrone he then fights the sadistic guard Manly and beats him up and pushes him into the same pool of water Dallas fell into. The warden then leaves the sadistic guards to physically abuse Leone by pushing his face into a cloud of hot steam from the pipes. Dallas tries to attack the warden but the corrupt sadistic prison guards beat him up and push him into a pool of water. He then tells Dallas he'll be sent back to the prison's general population, and since they now know he's a snitch the inmates will kill him. But the warden betrays Dallas telling him he doesn't make deals with escaped prisoners. Dallas agreed with the warden to lead Leone into a trap only if the warden would give Dallas an early release from prison. Dallas offers to help Leone escape to warn Melissa but instead delivers Leone to the utility basement right into Drumgoole's hands where he finds out that Drumgoole wanted him to try to escape so he would receive a mandatory 10-year sentence for the second escape attempt and the inmate who was going to rape Melissa was just a corrupt prison guard called Mastrone who was part of the warden's scheme to set Leone up. Whilst Leone recovers in the prison infirmary, one night a stranger, an inmate who claims to be an old friend from Treadmore, says that Chink has paid him to rape and murder Melissa. Since Leone didn't kill Chink one of Chink's friends stabs Leone from behind with a shank. Leone fights and defeats Chink, but he spare's Chink's life because he knows that's precisely what Drumgoole wants. Upon release, the warden wants an excuse to slap Leone with more time, so he allows prisoner Chink Weber (Sonny Landham) and his bullying friends to kill First-Base in the gym. The warden orders that the letters sent to him from his girlfriend Melissa be stashed away but as Leone is released Braden the good conscientious prison guard secretly delivers them to Leone. Drumgoole has them watch as inmates destroy the car and Leone is subsequently sent to solitary confinement for six weeks. This can be a game-changer when compared to asphalt shingles and the price difference. Metal roofs: 40-70 year expectancyīecause they are made of metal and won’t degrade as quickly, stone-coated metal roofs have a life expectancy in the 40-70 year range. This means that if you live in the same home for most of your life, you can expect to replace your roof 2-3 times. Most shingle warranties and expectancies will fall in the 15-30 year range. Asphalt shingles: 15-30 year expectancyĪs you look over quotes on a new asphalt shingle roof, you will notice that pricing will vary depending on the warranty and lifespan that you choose. The good news is that this saved labor can help make the more expensive stone-coated metal shingles more affordable.Īnd honestly, this is just one of the many reasons stone-coated metal is a great roofing material!Ī big factor in what you put on your house roof is the longevity and warranty of your roof.Īfter all, it might make sense to spend more on a roof product that has a longer warranty if you know that you will be there for the long term. If it is possible to keep your old roof, this can save a day or two of labor. After all, you don’t want parts of your roof collapsing when they have some extra snow on them! You will want to have this approved by an engineer or architect. Stone-Coated Metal Shingles Can Possibly Go On The Old Roofīecause they are lighter than asphalt shingles, sometimes a new stone-coated metal roof can be installed directly on top of the old existing roof. While it is common and pretty standard to remove the old roof, it does require extra labor and tools which add to your bill. Therefore, the roofing contractor will need to remove the old layer of shingles first. Standard asphalt shingles are relatively heavy when they are installed on the roof.īecause of this, it is rare that a house is able to hold 2 layers of shingles. There are many factors of your roof that will affect installation time, and which shingle type you choose will affect this.Īsphalt Shingles Often Require The Old Roof To Be Removed You are probably going to have a local roofing contractor install your new roof for you, but you still want to think about the installation process.Īnd why does this concern you if you aren’t the one on the roof? ![]() Talk to your contractor about what noise levels you can expect, ways to dampen the noise, and what those noise-dampening methods will cost. Noise levels will vary somewhat depending on your situation, although metal roofing is potentially much louder than asphalt shingles in a rainstorm. ![]() One valid concern that many have with a metal roof is noise, particularly when there is heavy rain. Because metal does a better job at reflecting sunlight, having a metal roof can help keep temperatures down in the summer. Metal shingles sometimes reduce energy expenses in a home, particularly in the summer. Stone-coated metal shingles, on the other hand, have two big advantages due to being made of metal.įirst, they can be made from recycled materials.Īnd second, if you ever remove them from your roof, you can recycle them! Stone-coated metal shingles: Recyclable friendly It is estimated that 11 million tons of shingle waste are created every year in the US, and much of it ends up in landfills. While some shingles may have parts of organic material in them, most are made from asphalt and fiberglass. Asphalt shingles: not usually eco-friendlyĪsphalt shingles are not usually made from recyclable materials. With climate change becoming an ever-present reality, and with our landfills and oceans filling with junk, being environmentally friendly is worth considering when you replace your roof. Make sure to ask your roofing contractor what warranties or services they offer if this becomes an issue. While this is not usually a problem, if the installation is poorly done or if incorrect parts are used, rust can develop, leading to rust stains. Concerns With Stone Coated Metal Roof AestheticsĪ potential downfall to using stone-coated metal roofing is that the flashing and other attachment parts are also metal. In fact, depending on the style of coating you get, a stone-coated metal roof can keep its look longer than an asphalt shingle roof because it won’t fade as quickly. (Check out the beauty of stone-coated metal in this blog about Decra Roofing.) Because of the stone particles attached to the metal plates, stone-coated metal roofing is able to avoid the “commercial metal” look that many homeowners want to avoid. However, stone-coated metal roofing is different than standard metal roofing. On the other hand, when people hear “metal roof” they often immediately think of the types of metal roofing used on commercial buildings. ![]() Check with your local retailers for their final price and availability.
